Ë WHY YOU SHOULD BECOME A MEMBER OF IPA SOUTH AFRICA?

 

Because it is Exclusive for Law Enforcement Officers Serving / Re Retired / Ex-Members.

 

Ë WHAT IS IPA SOUTH AFRICA?

 

1. It is an International Body, formed in Britain on the 1st of January 1950 by Arthur Troop with the sole purpose of promoting friendship amongst Police and other Law Enforcement Officers in South Africa and Internationally in an organized manner. South Africa being a member country since the 16th of June 1982 presently has 5000 members. There are currently 59 countries with 350,000 members internationally.

Our motto in Esperanto is:

"Servo per Amikeco"

"Service through Friendship"

2. IPA is  non-discriminative against race, color, sex or religion and is committed to the principles as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1984. IPA is represented in the United Nations and has Consultative Status (Special) with the Economic and Social Council and Consultative Status with the Council of Europe.

 

3. IPA South Africa is divided in 20 Regions with their own democratic elected Chairperson, Secretaries and Treasurers who form the National Council and they elect a National Executive Committee who is administratively responsible for the well being of IPA South Africa. The National Executive Committee consists of a President, 3 Vice Presidents, Treasurer and Secretary General.

 

Ë WHAT DO WE DO?

 

The IPA South Africa Constitution which is adopted from the International Statute has many aims and objectives and the following are a summary of a few from the Constitution:

  1. The IPA is there to further the aims and objectives and to enhance  the image of their own Police Service as well as other Law Enforcement Agencies here and abroad and to help improve relations between the public and the police.

  2. Ensuring the camaraderie of serving and retired police officers locally and internationally inclusive of other members of approved Law Enforcement Agencies and employees in their service.

  3. Organizing holiday and exchange visits for local and international members.

  4. Gaining and exchanging of professional experience and expertise from other Police Services.

  5. The organizing of Cultural and Social activities in which we benefit our less privileged or any other organization such as cancer and children's welfare.

Ë WHAT ARE MY BENEFITS?

  1. IPA South Africa has five guesthouses in South Africa with affordable accommodation for members. There are 56 other houses throughout the world.

  2. While still serving you may have the opportunity of Studying other police methods being housed by IPA guest families or accommodated in IPA Guesthouses.

  3. There are Hobby Secretaries who may help in exchanging or getting things.

  4. Pen friends

  5. You receive a lapel badge and identification  card - which is necessary when making use of IPA South Africa facilities here and abroad - as well as an IPA South Africa Constitution.

Ë WHAT DOES IT COST?

 

Serving SAPS members will pay R 12.50 per month via their persal deductions. Other potential candidates pay R 150.00 membership fees annually and if required arrangements can be made for bank debit order thereafter. Membership fees may be adjusted from time to time.

Remember once a paid-up member you have the right to speak and vote at your Regional/Branch Annual General Meetings.
